Groves Music Studio FAQ
Thank you so much for your interest in the Gordon Music Studio. I am sure we will have a fun time learning music!
Before starting music lessons of any sort, it is essential to establish clear and proper communication between the teacher and students. With this in mind, I have compiled this list of frequently asked questions
Q: How much are lessons?
- Please see the Lessons page for tuition rates.
- In addition, students will also need to purchase any required materials. (See below)
Q: How do I pay?
- I accept either cash or check
- Payment is due by the first lesson of the month. If no payment is received by then, a late fee of $10 per week will be placed on your tuition until the payment has been made.
- If a payment has not been made within three weeks, lessons will be suspended until payment is made.
Q: Where are lessons located?
- My studio is located a five minute walk from downtown Moscow. Once the student is registered for lessons, I will provide the address.
- Alternatively, for an additional travel fee, the teacher can visit the student’s home to teach lessons.
- Because of this, students and parents must make sure that during lesson times, the lesson location is neat and free from distractions including: other children, pets and media devices (tv, radio etc)
Q: What equipment and materials will we need?
For lessons, the student must have:
- An acoustic piano or a full (88 key) digital piano with weighted keys.
- A digital metronome.
- A three-ring binder with music and note-paper for assignments (provided by the teacher)
- Any method books, repertoire books or additional sheet music that is recommended by the teacher. (Loose sheet music should be three-hole punched and kept in their binder.)
- Students must have their materials with them at every lesson.
- If the student forgets or loses their books or materials, the teacher will replace them for a minimum $10 fee plus the replacement value of any additional books.
Where can I acquire materials?
- Digital pianos and metronomes are available at Keeney Brothers in Moscow: https://www.keeneybros.com/
- Acoustic pianos are available in music stores in the Spokane area
- Alternatively, it is easy to find quality digital and acoustic pianos via places like Craigslist
- Books and other music are bought from the teacher.
Q: What if we have to cancel or miss a lesson?
- Lessons that must be cancelled for reasons of illness, injury or emergency can be rescheduled as long as the teacher’s schedule permits it.
- Cancellations must be made with at least 24 hours notice. Cancellations made after 24 hours will be accepted at the discretion of the teacher.
- Lessons that are missed for reasons other than those listed above, or which cannot be rescheduled within two weeks are forfeited.
- There will not be a reduction in tuition for forfeited lessons
- If the teacher must cancel a lesson, the lesson will be rescheduled.
Q: May I observe my child’s lesson?
Absolutely!
- Parents are welcome and encouraged to observe their children’s lessons as parental involvement can help guide the student’s home practice.
- When observing lessons, please show consideration for the student and teacher by avoiding any unnecessary distractions.
Q: How much will the student need to practice?
- Students should practice a minimum of five days a week for a time that equals or exceeds the length of the lesson.
